He?s a former champion of the Nathan?s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, but Takeru ?The Tsunami? Kobayashi wasn?t welcome at this year?s festivities.
The 32-year-old man was arrested during Sunday?s (July 4) competition after a contract dispute banned him from taking part in the event.
And when Kobayashi stormed the stage, he was arrested and charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration.
?The Tsunami? told press, ?I was there as a spectator, just to cheer on my buddies,? as he left the court.?
This year?s winner, Joey ?Jaws? Chestnut (who ate 54 hot dogs in 10 minutes) commented, ?I feel bad for him,? while Major League Eating, the organization behind the event, said, “It was inappropriate and unfortunate ? Kobayashi was a great champion and we hope that he is able to resolve his current situation and move past this.”
